Right now, the times we are going through are unprecedented!! We, or our parents generation haven’t seen anything like this, so everyone’s learning it on the go. Every family has a different way of coping up with it, but the base line is to stay indoors and maintain social distancing!!
I see many families around me. Everyone by now knows keeping patience and calm is the only thing we can do. To maintain this calm - I have seen this pattern where people apart from there daily routine are doing such good work. We actually need all the positive vibes around. So I have joined this group in my complex who are very enthusiastic planters. And you should see the beautiful blooms and greens they all share in the morning!! It always brings fresh smile on my face looking at the greenery and what wonders people are creating in their small balconies!! Plus it is always such a treat to see life thriving in various forms!!
I love plants and so I too have my share of them in my balcony!!
Well, my positivity comes from my kitchen!!
So, to keep the positivity going through out the day at home - I try and make different recipes for kiddos.
Today I tried wheat burger buns, have baked many batches with variations of these and finally, today’s variation came out the best.
Messy Honey buns!! because they are so soft and divine, you will end up in a mess eating them π!!
Try it!!
Recipe -
240 ml - warm milk
2 and 1/4 teaspoons - Yeast
115 gms - unsalted butter
100 gms- honey
2 - Eggs
1/2 teaspoon - sea salt
420 gms - whole wheat flour
Seeds - to decorate your messy buns π
For brushing on top
4 tablespoon - Milk
2 teaspoons - honey( you can leave this if you don’t want your buns on sweeter side)
Prepare you yeast first.
Warm Milk + some honey + yeast+ 10 minutes.
Mix all the wet ingredients - butter, eggs, milk, yeast. Add flour and knead it.
Leave for 2 hours.
After 2 hrs take it out and knead it for 10 minutes. It will be sticky, very sticky in the beginning. You can sprinkle little little dry flour on it if it’s sticking while kneading. But after kneading it will be very soft and absolutely manageable.
Now divide as per the size you want. I made 8 burger buns out of it.
Place them in baking dish and wait for 20 minutes.
Of these 8, in two I did cheese and herb filling.
After 20 minutes put seeds on the top of the buns and brush with milk. Put them in oven and bake for 30-40 minutes.
After you take them out brush the milk + honey mixture on the top and pour with spoon in the cracks or simply brush with butter. Cover and leave for 10 minutes.
Cheese ones can be eaten plain. And in the plain ones you can fix a burger for yourself - but remember, it’s a messy burger!! Be ready to dig in!!
Dough after mixing, now keep for 2 hrs.
Grated cheese with herbs ...
Shape it up and decorate the way you want!!
Out of oven...
Final setting, messy hon bun ready!!
